Welcome to TLC
At the Transition Learning Center (TLC), we are honored to work alongside young adults aged 18–22 who have been diagnosed with disabilities. Our program is built on a simple but powerful belief: every person can learn, and every person deserves the chance to be an independent, blossoming member of this beautiful coastal community.
Together with students, families, and community partners, we help each young adult build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to live and work as independently as possible — and to find their place in the world.
What We Do
TLC is more than a classroom. We're based in an actual house, right here in Fort Bragg, where students cook their own meals, clean, learn, and get ready for their dream jobs and their best lives in this coastal community.
We focus on two interconnected goals:
Workforce Readiness
We help students establish themselves in the local workforce through our Workability program — connecting them with real job placements in the community and building the professional skills that employers value.
Independent Living Skills
We teach the everyday skills that make a full life possible, including:
- Cooking and meal planning
- Cleaning and home care
- Gardening
- Personal hygiene
- Social-emotional wellness
We believe that independence isn't just about work — it's about having the tools, confidence, and support to make your own choices every day.
Life at TLC
We spend roughly 70% of our time out of the house and in the community. Fort Bragg and the surrounding Mendocino Coast are our classroom, and we make the most of everything this region has to offer.
During the week, students rotate through individualized job placements, life skills practice at the house, and community-based learning. On Fridays, we go on adventures — heading out to lunch, visiting local shops and cultural spots, working out, or exploring further afield. Recent Friday adventures have taken us to Mendocino, Boonville, Ukiah, local art galleries, marine science centers, lighthouses, and more. We plan our outings at least a month in advance, though weather may occasionally shift our plans.
We have strong collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies, including:

Friday destinations are planned at least one month in advance. Activities may include day trips to Mendocino, Boonville, and Ukiah, as well as local exploration — museums, art galleries, the marine science center, lighthouses, lunch out, fitness activities, and more. If we stay close to home, we plan an extra fancy lunch and explore our neighborhood.
Our Statement of Purpose
At TLC, we work with young adults, aged 18–22, who have disabilities. We work with them to help every student become an independent, contributing member of society. We help students find their place in the local workforce, while also teaching independent living skills across all areas of life — including social skills, personal enrichment, and hygiene.
We are located in a house off campus, where we cook our own meals, clean, learn, and get ready for our dream jobs and best life in this coastal community.
